Is there any advice you can give me on how to make it better? I was thinking of a standard ACOG scope a bottom rail with a grip and flashlight.

The purist in me says, "nothing, not a thing," as wood stocks looks best unmolested. Flashlights are good for night games, but they are few and far between - extra weight is not your friend when you're running around for an hour. Sight, red-dot or whatever, maybe.
But since you are going with a Russian theme - take a look at the contemporaries and see what their loads are.

there isn't much you can do to it that won't look like an tactical abortion.....if you want an tacticool ak then get something like this...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
if you get the stock wooden ak, then just keep it that way.....
the opinion on lasers being useless for most anything other then looks is seconded as well......a lot of fields and event promoters aren't allowing them anyway now because of issues with players lazing eyes and nvgs of opposing players with the over powered ,chinese, cheap lasers.....field insurers are now just dis-allowing them as a liability issue.

I agree with path. It fries your eyes when anything bright hits those NVG's. But a tac light is not a bad idea depending on if you can get a good looking rail system.

you can buy a barrel clamped light mount, or duct tape and zip ties all of which look great on an ak. I don't care for acogs on AKs but a side mount and red dot are nifty.
Get your AK tuned to where you want it with plenty of mags then upgrade the body.
