What are you looking for with a sniper rifle The VSR-10 would be your best bet if your looking to upgrade a sniper rifle. The JG Bar is a great platfourm to work with and it only cost about $100.00. With a few good upgrades you could hit the 500fps mark with no problem. It would cost anywhere form $100-$400 for upgrades it all depends on what you want to spend and what brands you use.

I've never used anything over .28s in my DMRs, I've also heard and seen great results fro the madbull.4s
If i do end up with a gun for this it'll probably be my M14, or if i get the cash together make a Bar10

Now Airsoft Gi has a GI G700 Upgraded Sniper Rifle. It comes shooting 530fps-550fps. It cost 259.99, But it comes pre upgraded

I've never used the rifle, but alot of people say nothing but good things about he gun. Its a Socom Gear r700 Base gun with all GI upgrade parts. It might be you best bet if your looking to get a spring rifle shooting 550 with out spending a butt load of money or you can go with the JG Bar 10 and upgrade it. If you go with the Bar 10 you might have some problems with upgrade parts. You may have to modify some after market parts to fit just right. So its up to you and what you want to do.

I am currently using a UTG L96 and have done a couple upgrades to it but nothing major. I have fielded it twice with okay results. Currently I am not looking to buy another one as I still prefer assault over sniper. I was curious to see what people were shooting. I have been using 30's but want to go towards .40's as I am not getting consistent results with 30's. Is there that much of a difference?

Well what is your UTG's fps with .2s and .3s My dragunov shoots .2s at 511 and its semi-auto. With .40 I'm shooting 360fps and a range of about 240ft-260ft. I can hit targets at 220ft with no problem, but at that range its all body shots. At 175ft I can hit a 14in by 14in target 15 out of 15 times. With .40s. You need to look at what fps your gun is running. If you are pushing the 460-500fps+ mark it is time to use .36s and .40s. You will see a big spike hits you will get at a 150ft+ mark with .40s if your pushing 480fps+. Now I will tell you if your gun is stock you must get a new tight bore barrel. It's a must have AND A NEW HOPUP RUBBER!!!!. It will make a huge difference.

I think I was shooting between 329-349 FPS with .30 last weekend but since then I have added a spacer to the spring and taped up what I could to maintain air pressure. I am hitting a 9" Styrofoam plate at 220-240 feet 3 out of 5 times (wind permitting). So by the chart provided by Air Force, the gun is shooting between 450-500 fps with .20's if my ranging is correct?
